Soomaa National Park Guide
Soomaa National Park is situated in the south-western part of Estonia. It has been a national park since 1993 with a dimension of 390 km2. Much of the wildlife is on the Red List of Threatened Species. This national park consists of huge mires, swamps and rivers. The Kuresoo Bog is one of the largest in the northern part of Europe. Floods in the so-called 5th season often cause to cover a surface of over 100 km2.

Trails
Bog walking trails are usually marked boardwalks.
Recommended trails Töramaa Wooded Meeadow Trail Easy to find as it starts next to the Visitors Centre, on your way you will pass a place where you can make a fire and also go for a swim. This trail is ideal in summer. Riisa Bog Trail Starts from the main road. During the 5 km journey one passes several bogs walking on a boardwalk. This tour is highly recommended.
Canoeing
Canoeing is a perfect way to explore the national park, it preserves the nature, but you will be able to see a lot. Canoe rental is available.
Cross-Country Skiing
In winter you can discover the beauties of the park with cross-country skis as the bogs and rivers are frozen. If you manage to come here on a clear day you will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience.
Traveling to Soomaa National Park
It is recommended to come by car from Pärnu (45 km) or to join an organized tour. You wont find an fancy hotels inside the park, but there are guesthouses, camping options and a hostel in Jöesuu village.
