Estonian food
In Estonia meals with meat (mostly pork), potatoes, vegetables, black bread and dairy products are the most common.
First course
The first course can either be a soup (made with bouillon and vegetables often with an addition of sour cream or yogurt) or a cold dish (usually fish or meat/sausage). Very popular in Estonia is Marinated eel or tongue.
Main Course
The main course often consists of a pork meal, but the dishes are being mixed with international influences so that also fish and other meat varieties are popular. Estonians also like their blood sausage which every tourist should try. Also Kotlet and Jellied meat are traditional dishes widely available for you to try.
Desserts
As desserts all sorts of pastries (like Karask) are very common in the Estonian Cuisine and should be tried.
Drinks
Popular Estonian drinks are beer (local beer brands include: Saku, A. Le Coq , Viru Ölu), liquor (Vana Tallinn), vodka (Viru Valge), kvass (Kali, a fermented bread drink) and milk.
Although prices have gone up, restaurants are still cheap compared to most other European countries. If you are in Tallinn and want to eat cheap you should avoid eating at the Town Hall Square, in Viru Street and in hotels. Although some of those higher prices there are well worth it.
